Tommy’s here in Pune for a project. We decided to meetup at Koregaon Park, an area in Pune famous for speciality restaurants and the Osho Resort. As we both stayed at opposite ends of Pune, getting to the starting checkpoint took more time than expected.

German Bakery

Right opposite to the Osho resort road is German Bakery. It is the most popular hangout place in Koregaon Park. At any time, you can see it packed to full by tourists from all parts of the world. The bakery looks like a small shed from outside. But don’t let the first appearance fool you. It’s famous for its “healthy food” and they sure aint expensive. Pic: The Interior | Stuff on display

Opus at ABC Farms

ABC Farms is actually some cheese and dairy product manufacturers. They have an area with about four restaurants, each catering specialized food like Tandoori, Hyderabadi, Italian etc.. We tried beef steaks from “Opus”. The ambience was good and so was the food. We left Koregaon Park soon after spending around 2 hours for the meal and reached Shivaji Nagar.

E-Square

E-square is a multiplex with 5 screens. “Up” was probably the only movie worth watching and we’d missed it by an hour. I wasn’t very keen on watching another flick. We left the place. But there was something there on display that made Tommy, the die-hard F1 fan, all smiles.

Kakade Mall

Kakade Center is right next to E-Square. I think it’s a new one as the top levels were plain empty. We didn’t spend much time at Kakade Mall and walked to yet another mall, “Pune Central”, which is like a 5 minute walk from Kakade.

Pune Central Mall

An impressive one. 5 levels of shopping and a food court on top. (Pic: Interior | Alternate pic) This was the last place on the list and it was around 5:00 PM when I left for home. I had a really adventurous return journey. Two buses, one share rickshaw and 3 kilometers by foot.

It’s my first week in Pune DC. After spending 22 days at Mysore DC as a free bird, here I am in Pune. I must say, things are quite different here. Here’s a quick comparison of both the DCs: [Click on the thumbnails to view images]

Environment

Probably, the most evident difference between the two DCs would be the environment. While we have a feeling of an extended college life at myDC, its purely a corporate world here. There are no guards to blow a whistle when we fail to walk along the footpath. There exists no fixed deadline for entering or exiting the campus or the office. As a result, you can always find a dozen souls walking about at any point of time during the day.

The Employee Care Center (ECC)

After staying in MyDC for over five odd months, my perception of an ECC was a not-so-tall building, spread over a vast area. This was shattered when I came to know that the huge 15 storeyd building we first laid eyes on when entering the campus was the ECC. At first sight, it resembled ‘The Belagio’ to me and hence I call it by that name. Quite a few have started calling it that way now.

SuperMart

While MyDC has our very beloved Loyal World, Pune DC has a much bigger counterpart, Food Bazar.

Indigo Nation

Similar. Just that the one at Pune is bigger and has a larger collection of clothes and collectibles.

Food Courts

MyDC boasts of six Food Courts and of opening the 7th FC soon. Pune DC has 2 FCs. They are bigger and have a host of options available.
Everything from Idlis to Sizzlers are available. Inevitably, chains like Dominos, CCD and others do exist.
One notable difference between the MyDC and PuneDC (I guess it holds true for all DCs other than myDC) is that Pune DC provides self service for the veg-meals. This means no more half Kg rice + 50 gm side dish ‘they’ give. We get to choose what we need and only what we need.

The Pavillion

Equivalent to MyDC’s Floating Restaurant. However, The Pavillion is much better. When we reached Pune DC, there was this inaugural buffet dinner for Rs 175. Nowhere else would you get the options that was provided there for 175. I am not sure what the regular rates would be. The food was really awesome and @marcsez liked it so much that he asked for the feedback book and made a comment in it.

Architecture

The Multiplex is the one single landmark that would define MyDC. Simlarly, it would be the bubbles(?) at PuneDC. I honestly think they are two crash landed spacecrafts though. @marcsez has the same insight too. The locals call them andee (That’s “eggs” in Hindi; Pronounced Un-dey). Anyway, these are the buildings that define Infy Phase 2 campus.
If anyone has a clear idea of what these buildings were named *actually*, please do comment
Each of the Software Development Blocks (SDBs) at Mysore have a unique design. Not so in the case of PuneDC. All the SDBs other than the eggs have a standard, uniform design.

Whatever be the case, no other DC can match upto the attachment Infoscions have to the vast, calm, lush green Mysore DC, which would have been their abode for the initial months of training.
